“THE ROOKERY”
Please note, a group of residents have decided to strim the whole area, and remove tree branches, so the photos may not be representative of it’s current appearance.
The woodland adjacent to St. Hilda’s Well had not been maintained for decades and left to grow wild.
In 2020, the Parochial Church Council and Jet Coast Development Trust worked in partnership to transform the area and create a new community open space for use by residents and visitors to the area.

An Arboricultural Survey was undertaken, and a tree surgeon employed to cut back dead branches. An open ditch was drained and volunteers began to clear the dense undergrowth to create new paths and seating areas.

Within a few weeks the woodland was filled with plants and flowers. The self-seeded yew trees would now have the chance to flourish.
Over time this neglected part of the Churchyard should become a haven for wildlife and traditional English plants and flowers.
With improved access, the area will be a quiet and relaxing area for people of all ages to visit, meet friends, have picnics, or bring children to explore and play in the natural environment.
